Q: What is the Holy Ghost and How Do I get it?

Well, sonny...the Holy Ghost is the same spirit that dwelled in Jesus while he was here on Earth. It is a Spirit of Holy Power given to us to overcome Satan and sin. Our own Human will is not strong enough to overcome sin, we will always fail. This is why Jesus came to sacrifice himself for our sins. After his resurrection and ascension, he bestowed upon us the Holy Ghost which was delivered to those who believed and obeyed him (at that time his 12 disciples + 108 brethren including Mary, mother of Jesus = 120 people) on the Day of Pentecost. (Acts 1:14,15)

Q: Okay grandma... but How do I get this power to help me overcome sin?

A: First of all sonney, you must recognize that you are a sinner! but grandma...I don't lie or steal or cheat and I always follow the golden rule! -I know...but you were born a sinner. For in depth reasoning refer to (Romans 5:12,14)(Romans 3:23)(I Kings 8:46;II Chronicles 6:36).

Anywho...Once you have realized you are a sinner, like I did, you must repent for your sins with all of your heart (I mean break down and cry if you have to, I sure did; yup I remember it like it was yesterday t'was the summer of 1942 at senior camp back in my glory days...) to God our Lord Jesus Christ and then be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. (Not the father, the son and the Holy Ghost).

See yall youngsta's will go for anything nowadays...but back in my day and in the days of the apostles and early church folk there was only one way to be baptized: emersed in some water in the name of Jesus Christ.

Q:...but what about the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost? That is how I was baptized.... ...son for you go any further what's your name again.

-Trad -Trad what son, you have a last name? Tradition Ofmen, maam. The scripture your talking about Trad is found in Matt. 28, and it is actually instructing believers to be baptized in the name of Jesus. Don't they teach nothing in public schools nowadays... Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three titles however none of them equal a name. So when you baptize in the titles of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost you are not obeying the scripture!

Let me explain it like this, If you wanted to write a check to your best friend Jack Buck, would you write Pay to the Order of "My Best Friend" and give him the check or would you put Pay to the Order of "Jack Buck"? The bank certainly would not cash a check TITLED Pay to the Order of "My Best Friend", the title "My Best Friend" does not distinguish or determine ownership, the check could belong to anyone. But, by placing the Name "Jack Buck", it identifies to whom the money belongs. This is very analogous to the Baptism in the Name of Jesus and why it is crucial to be re-baptized in his name. We all know that our path to future salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ. Well, this correct baptism illustrates the path.

Through water baptism in the name of Jesus, Jesus then takes ownership of your soul and writes his name (Jesus) on your human spirit. Then he combines your human spirit with his Holy Ghost so that SATAN no longer has control over your destiny or death. You now belong to Jesus. When Jesus was cruxified he went to the bottom pit of hell, took possession of the keys to death. Therefore, with the Holy Ghost, you can be rest assured Jesus has the keys to your destiny, which is a great feeling. Satan can no longer harm you or bind your human spirit because Jesus has it with his Holy Ghost. Satan can now only tempt you.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:38,39)

Q: Well grandma,I repented of my sins and got baptized in the name of Jesus, How will I know if I have the Holy Ghost?

Trust me baby you'll know. Its just like the wind baby...you never see it but you always see its affects. The annointing of the Holy Ghost is hard to explain. It sort of feels like electricity (but not really, much better) through your body, it is transparent and glorious, cleansing all sin and disease from your body. As you pray and worship to Jesus the feeling gets much more intense...you will feel an actual physical change existing within your flesh. The Bible says the gift of the Holy Ghost is evidenced by the speaking of other tongues. Do not concentrate on this to much because I did not speak in tongues until a little while after receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, but it will happen. See the Bible says the tongue is the most unruly member of the body and when God or the Holy Ghost gets a hold of it, he now controls the part of flesh which is noted "most out of control" with his spirit (Holy Ghost). Thus, we know talking in other tongues demonstrates the power and glory of the Holy Ghost. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. (Acts 19:6)

Q: But why do I need the Holy Ghost? Will it help me with my everyday struggles?

A: There are many reasons. First, without it, you will never be able to completely overcome sin, our human will is simply not strong enough to defeat Satan. So you call upon the Lord Jesus (either through praying or praise and worship) when tempted and he will rescue you from sinning. If you feel you are being tempted to sin, pray out to Jesus, he will completely fill you with the Holy Ghost saving you from sin. I know, that I know, that I know because I have relied on his strength many times and it works. You see big mama used to have an alcohol/drug problem and if it was not for his Holy Ghost, I am sure I would be dead. Not only did he deliver me from such evil addictions, but also healed every bit of my body that was damaged from alcohol, drugs and cigarettes...I am 100% plus healthy. So you see, the Holy Ghost is a divine gift from God that gives healing, health, love, peace, joy and best of all, available to everyone. It is the greatest gift of life. But most importantly, it is necessary to enter the Kingdom of God (Heaven).

"Jesus answered, verily,verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5) Isn't great to know where you are going.
